I tend to hide a lot of my meaning in the abstract when I write songs, but "Why Can't I Call You" came from a pretty obvious place of having a crush on someone that I couldn't pursue. They were in a relationship, so it's all the things I can't say to them. I enjoyed blowing the emotions up into exaggerated proportions over this dark, spacious instrumental.
