Weather Systems is opgericht door voormalig Anathema mastermind en multi-instrumentalist Daniel Cavanagh en voormalig Anathema drummer en producer Daniel Cardoso. Met de lancering van deze tweede track deelt Weather Systems, “’Synaesthesia.’ We bet you weren’t expecting this! A super heavy 9-minute song in five movements.  A song that explores amongst the heaviest moments of the last two decades of our music, either with Anathema or Weather Systems. A song that introduces you to the album by taking you on an unexpected journey. A song that musically could crush your skull and lyrically lift your spirit. A song of hope, of connection to the ‘one love’ that the Beatles and Bob Marley sang of but executed in a way that’s never been done before. A song that reflects the light of all life, the ocean without a shore that is eternal, unbounded consciousness and the connection that we all share to everyone. There isn’t another song out there like this one. Ladies and gentlemen. ‘Synaesthesia.’”
 
Muziek helpt ons bij het uiten van emoties die te diep zijn voor alledaagse gesprekken. Het breekt barrières af en maakt communicatie op een hoger niveau mogelijk. Daniel Cavanagh heeft altijd via zijn muziek gecommuniceerd. Als medeoprichter, leadgitarist en songwriter van Anathema raakte hij generaties fans, bracht wereldwijd geprezen albums uit en speelde voor uitverkochte zalen. Nu, aan het roer van Weather Systems, gaat hij verder waar hij gebleven was en zet vol vertrouwen de volgende creatieve stap met dit aankomende debuutalbum van de band.
 
“This record is more direct, honest, and from the heart,” bevestigd Daniel. “It takes you on a journey with some very personal, intense, and emotional songs. It’s spiritual for me. The music is coming from a higher place, so I hope it touches you.”
 
In 2019 begon Daniel te schrijven aan wat hij dacht dat het volgende Anathema-album zou worden. Twee jaar eerder had de Britse band veel succes met hun laatste album, The Optimist. Het won "Album of the Year" bij de Progressive Music Awards, kwam in de Top 40 van de UK Albums Chart en stond op de jaarlijsten van AXS, Classic Rock, Metal Hammer en The Independent. In de studio vond Daniel snel zijn creatieve flow, maar in 2020 besloot de band een pauze te nemen. Zodoende ontstond het merendeel van Ocean Without A Shore tijdens die Anathema-sessies.
 
“It was 80% an Anathema record we would’ve made,” vervolgt hij. “It’s definitely a continuation of what I was doing. I’ll make an analogy. If Anathema was Game of Thrones, then Weather Systems is House of the Dragon. It’s part of the same universe, but it’s a new story. It’s different, because it’s a little heavier. I’ll always play the Anathema songs I wrote, because I love them so much. Weather Systems is the name of our best album, in my opinion. Ocean Without A Shore is like a sequel.”
 
Hij voltooide de muziek samen met enkele bekende gezichten. Hij werkte opnieuw samen met The Optimist producer Tony Doogan [Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian]. Naast Anathema-drummer Daniel Cardoso op de drums en als live musical director, en Cavanagh's uitvoeringen op zang, piano, elektrische piano, keyboards, vocoder, elektrische en akoestische gitaren en bas, bevat het album zang van Soraia, Petter Carlsen, Oliwia Krettek en Paul Kearns.
 
Zoals alles wat Daniel tot nu toe heeft gedaan, heeft de muziek van Weather Systems de kracht om te verbinden. “Anathema never really had ‘casual fans’,” deelt hij. “The music was so intense and emotional, and people were affected by it on a deep level. I really respect that, and I just try to write music that will resonate in the hearts and souls of listeners. I hope it heals.”
